How to choose an Atlanta moving company for your move this summer

April 1, 2010

We are starting to see the light of day with warmer temperatures, birds singing, the spread of pollen and the soon to follow record Atlanta pollen counts (yes the sneezing has begun) which means spring is in the air and the Atlanta summer moving season is just around the corner.

When it is time to pack up your belongings and move to your new digs remember these few pointers on how to choose your moving company to try and avoid the potential pitfalls of moving:
1.) Before you call movers try to clarify for your self what you will need help with and what you want to pay movers to do.  The more accurate your are in describing the needs and details of your move to the various movers you speak with the more accurate the price quotes will be you get back.  You don’t want inaccurate price quotes because then what are you going to base your decision on?

2.) Research a handful of companies and choose about 3-4 to call and discuss your needs and the services they offer over the phone.  Call as many as you like but if you have picked reputable companies to start with you will get some what similar information from each.

3.) Take a minute and look up the movers on the Georgia Public Service Commission web site.  All movers in Atlanta must get a license from the GA PSC if they are legal movers.

4.) Check the status of the business with the Atlanta Better Business Bureau.  A few complaints in the last few years is not out of line but if they have a laundry list of issues move on.

5.) Check the customer review based sites such as kudzu.com, cityvoter, com, yelp.com to name a few.  Once again a couple of bad reviews are ok but if it’s one horror story after another move on.

Once you have done your research you have the basis to make a good decision on who to choose for your move.  Talk with each of the last couple of movers who have made it through the process and then go with who you best fits your needs.
